It's like a different time...

The last few weeks, I've noticed that walking the path that leads to my lottie is like walking into a different time, there's no traffic noise, no kids shouting (unless I've brought mine and nicola's brought hers ;-D ) there's nothing but old cottages, people smiling, without a care in the world, who are geniunely interested when they ask you how your day is. People want to help, people do help, for no other reason than that, to help! I always imagine that growing up 50, 60, 70 years ago would be just like that, like walking into my allotment. If you could bottle the feeling, the complete relaxation, you'd be a millionaire.

I went to the allotment last night to water the plants in, (anyone else ready to do a rain dance yet? It's getting desperate already and were only in April!!) and I noticed that old Bill had been and piled me a load of manure next to my compost bin. What a lovely man, I know it must have been him as I asked him the other day how to get my hands on some for my rhubarb crowns, that I want to get in. I just shows doesn't it, how different things really are down there. It's like my very own Narnia :)

Have since found out that it was David and Janet who got the manure onto my allotment, they are so nice, I'm blessed with lovely neighbours :)

Bit of an update

Here are a few pics of the seedlings I put in few weeks back, they were all doing so well, but unfortunately at the weekend we had some really hot weather and a lot of them suffered in the heat of the greenhouse, I lost 3 cucumber plants, 2 courgette plants, and a few peppers.

On the plus side my Dad bought me two rhubarb crowns for me to put in. :D
I have a potato patch dug ready to put the potatoes in once they are finished chitting. Its all go!!

What a nightmare!

ARGHHHHHHH!!!!! Stupid wind! As if I needed anymore reason to hate it. Got down lottie this morning (Saturday 2nd April) and it had ruined the greenhouse, taken 2 panes of glass off the roof and flooded it with the rain. Grrr, rang Les (overly dramatic and crying) and he came down to save the day :)

Les re-pained the roof for me and using expanding foam has filled in all the gaps, its not pretty but it does the job!

I got on with some potting on while he was busy and potted on a tub of sweetcorn (x12plants) 2 x cabbages (x24plants) 1 tub of cauliflower (x15plants) 2xbroccoli (x24plants) 3tubs of peas (x40plants) hehe. I also potted 4 chilli plants on, 4 pumpkins, I think I'm set for the next month or so now until the next lot of seeds need to be sown.

Mine and Jessie's day of fun.

Me and my daughter Jessie spent a lovely saturday down the lottie together, Jessie (who's 5) said that it was 'The best day ever,' She wasnt far wrong!

We had a great day together, I potted some lettuce on that I had been given and planted some rows of red onion, Jessie had her own tub and picked her own seeds to plant, she chose runner beans (too early i know) peas and sunflowers. She told me not to forget she needed to water them after they were covered too, she must be watching me work lol.

We checked on her pumpkins too, were having a competition this year to see who can grow the biggest. They are shooting through. Jessie got all excited.

What a fab day :)

Monday 21st March.

I checked on the seedlings today, cleared the extra plant pots and tubs to one side out of the way and noticed that the tomato plants are getting really big and starting to take off :)

Also I moved the paving slabs from the middle of the plot to the side because they took up too much space so I decided they'd do better as a sort of seating area. The daffodils that Sid grew on the lottie every year for the church are coming through thick and fast now too!!

Sunday 20th March

Paid Lottie a visit today and planted 3 rows of onion sets as well as 2 rows of shallots. I heard that if you plant a couple of rows of carrots between your rows then that should keep them onion and carrot fly free as they dont like the scent for each other. Also I potted on my tomato plants today and watered in the seedlings.

I potted on 4 strawberry plants today too and a rasberry plant, hoping to get some fruit from the this year :)

A nice relaxed afternoon in the lottie :)

Saturday 19th March

I found a checklist in GW magazine for March, should keep me busy inbetween digging the beds, seeding and sowing!!

Les has been down and finished the greenhouse, woohoo! I have 2 shelves and a none leaky roof. :D

Also I have sown lots of seeds today, including cucumbers, peas, pumpkins, cabbage, cauliflower, leeks, carrots, peppers, sweetcorn and courgette. My potatoes have been put out to chit too.

A very productive weekend :)

I've got a greenhouse...

Les has been working soooo hard to clear and sort my Greenhouse for me, to be ready for sowing this season, he's done a fab job and with a little bit of nagging it's now up and running, I'm over the moon :) Oh and we also cleared the shed, got some of my things in it and added some locks, it's starting to feel like mine now!!

Spring has set in...

...and I've been busy working lottie and digging her over. The weeding and getting the roots out was an absolute nightmare and took me unknown hours, but... I think it's been worth it. Half of the allotment is now overturned and ready for planting :D
